The Department of Economics and Management invites applications for a permanent position of

    UNIVERSITY LECTURER in BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

starting on 1st of June 2018 or according to mutual agreement.

The duties of the university lecturer include (i.) research, in the area of business management, with a focus on food, (ii.) corresponding research-based teaching at bachelor and master level, and (iii.) administrative tasks, including the supervision of bachelor and master theses. All duties require language competences in both Finnish and English at varying levels. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee shall ideally not only be highly active in terms of research (in particular journal publications in the field of business management, with focus on food), but also have experience in teaching, theses supervision and administration. Success in attracting research grants and/or industry-sponsored projects, and possession of a relevant international academic and/or industry network is considered an asset.

According to the Regulations of the University of Helsinki, holders of university lectureships are required to possess a doctoral degree, to have the ability to provide high quality research-based teaching, and to supervise theses and dissertations. To successfully attend to the duties of the position, appointees must have excellent English language skills. According to the University Decree, university lecturers must be fluent in the Finnish language. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in the Finnish or Swedish language may be exempted from this requirement without a separate application. Although the languages of instruction are English and Finnish, applicants without Finnish language competence are warmly encouraged to apply. It is however expected that the recruited university lecturer will acquire Finnish language skills to teach courses and perform administrative duties within three years from her/his appointment.

The salary will be based on levels 5-7 of the requirements level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. There is a four-month trial period for the position. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to provide a teaching presentation.

Applicants are requested to enclose with their applications a CV, a certificate of language skills, a list of publications (for instructions, see http://www.helsinki.fi/af-faculty/administration/teaching_research_position.html) and a brief English-language report of the following: - research and scientific experience, - involvement in administrative duties, and - other activities which the applicant wishes to bring to the attention description of teaching qualifications (for instructions, see http://www.helsinki.fi/af-faculty/administration/description_of_teaching_qualifications.pdf) or, alternatively, an academic portfolio containing the above documents (for instructions, see http://www.helsinki.fi/recruitment/academicportfolio.html).

Please submit your application using the University of Helsinki Recruitment System via the link Apply for job. Applicants who are employees of the University of Helsinki are requested to leave their application via the SAP HR portal. The deadline for applications is February 28, 2018.
