The Opportunity

The Appointee will be expected to work within a collegial environment, and to effectively represent the School within the University as well as within the local and regional tourism and hospitality industry. He/she is expected to ensure that the School and University mission statement and Strategic Plan and University policies are all implemented. The incumbent is expected to ensure the highest quality of educational experience for students at the University and ensures that the School continues to address the needs of its regional stakeholders and maintains its International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) accreditation, which the School was awarded in 2010. As the Head of School, the appointee is expected to mentor and develop senior and junior academic staff, work with senior staff to develop the curriculum where needed, maintain and develop tourism and hospitality industry contacts, have an acute awareness of regional issues, from a social, economic and cultural perspective, and possess the ability to lead by example and initiative.

The Person We Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

- A PhD in a relevant field and extensive teaching experience;
- Significant research and publications record together with a record of successful Masters and PhD thesis supervision;
- Administrative and research experience;
- A proven record of supervision of research students and academic leadership;
- Excellent English – written and oral communication skills;
- Experience in curriculum development;
- Experience of tourism and hospitality management in islands or small states and be aware of problems they commonly experience in developing tourism;
- A demonstrable commitment to academic leadership and to promoting and developing the programme throughout the South Pacific region;
- The ability to be entrepreneurial in attracting research funding;
- Relevant consultancy experience.


The position is available for a term of 5 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range: Professor FJ $129,078 to FJ $139,543 per annum

The University may pay an inducement allowance to secure the services of an exceptionally well-qualified candidate.

In addition, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme and provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
