POSITION: David M. Beights Chair in Accounting, Professor or Associate Professor of Accounting
Stetson University’s School of Business Administration invites applications for a senior academic leader to serve as the David M. Beights Chair in Accounting at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. This is a full-time faculty position in the M. E. Rinker, Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy, eligible for tenure, beginning in the fall 2019 semester.
The Beights Chair was established in 1981 following a fundraising campaign to honor Dr. David M. Beights. Known as the "dean of Florida accountants," Dr. Beights pioneered the development of accounting programs at colleges and universities across the state. The Chair was established in his honor to recognize the standards of excellence for which he was known; to preserve the excellence of Stetson’s accountancy program; and to attract prestigious professors at the School of Business Administration. The successful candidate will also have strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and administrative skills; a solid record of academic leadership; and a successful record of mentoring junior faculty members. Particularly important is experience in providing vision and leadership at the department, school, and university levels for innovative undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs. Experience in innovative high-impact teaching techniques and collaborative research is advantageous.
Stetson University tenure-track faculty typically teach three unit courses each semester. Teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise and may include offerings for the University’s requirements in General Education.
The Beights Chair in Accounting is expected to play a leadership role in the M. E. Rinker Sr. Institute of Tax and Accountancy. Mentoring junior faculty, working with undergraduate and graduate students, preserving and enhancing the reputation of Stetson’s accounting programs, helping to develop a vision for the Rinker Institute, engaging in significant outreach efforts to accounting firms as well as the state and national accounting communities are some of the essential responsibilities of the Beights Chair.
