Finance Teaching Specialist, Lecturer or Senior Lecturer

The finance department at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota (Twin Cities campus), is seeking qualified applicants for Teaching Specialist, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions starting in the fall of 2018. The positions are for a non-tenure track nine month appointment, renewable annually subject to performance.

The responsibilities of these positions are to teach 24 credits over the nine-month academic year, to participate in efforts to evaluate and improve the finance curriculum and to advise students regarding course work and career interests. Reductions in teaching may be available for curriculum-related or program-related service assignments. Additional teaching with added compensation might be available for summer teaching, for teaching in Carlson’s international MBA programs and for teaching in Carlson’s Executive Education Center programs.

Teaching duties will consist of undergraduate and MBA finance courses, offered in both large lecture and smaller case discussion formats. The majority of the teaching is likely to be in introductory corporate finance, Excel based decision modeling and valuation based courses, although there are likely to be opportunities for teaching in other courses. The relevant courses are offered in Carlson’s day, evening and weekend degree programs in the Twin Cities.

Salary and benefits are competitive.

Candidates must, at a minimum, have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from an institution with a strong academic reputation and at least five years of related industry or teaching experience.

Preferred candidates will have an MBA, a Master’s or ABD in Finance, Accounting or Economics or a J.D. and a minimum of two years of experience successfully teaching finance courses.

The ideal candidate would have the advanced degree and five or more years of teaching experience, including demonstrated success teaching finance courses at top-50 AASCB accredited schools.
