Faculty - Assistant Professor - Operations

Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)


Under the direction of the Chair, Department of Strategic Management & Operations and the Dean, Woodbury School of Business, this tenure-track Assistant Professor plans, prepares, and teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses and curriculum with measurable objectives, thus, teaching is the heart of our mission but program-building is a focus of our efforts as we launch a new degree in Operations. Courses created or assigned are expected to focus on existing and newly developing topics and practices such as Operations Management, Operations Research, TQM, Lean Management, SCRUM, Statistics, Calculus, and other quantitative (and non-quantitative) problem solving technologies. Prepares instructional materials, including examinations, course outlines, syllabus, visual aids and presentations. Evaluates instruction and learning outcomes through performance evaluations. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records regarding student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Schedules regular office hours and advises students during office hours as well as at other times as needed.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Operations from an AACSB-accredited program, or closely related field required.
3 years College- or university-level teaching experience required.
3 years operations experience in industry.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques and current trends in education.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation (including evaluation of peer- and self-instruction.
  • Knowledge of development and assessment of curriculum.
  • Advance knowledge of subject matter in course content of the courses to be taught which may include courses emphasizing both theory and practice.
  • Experience with graduate students, and other relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Record of scholarly work or evidence of potential.
  • Skills in teaching and maintaining a classroom.
  • Skills in developing strong relationships with the business community.
  • Ability to effectively apply general principles to specific conditions.
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with people.
  • Demonstrated ability to build Operations programs including but not limited to new course design, building and maintaining value-added relationships between an academic unit and the business community that employs its graduates.
