D. Wyatt Henderson Department of Accounting

Accountants work with businesses of every size to set up and maintain the systems that collect and report information about business activity. Recent graduates of the CCU accounting program have taken jobs with public accounting firms like Ernst and Young, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and local and regional firms as auditors and tax experts. Others work in the corporate finance area, are self-employed as CPAs, work in the U.S. State Department, the criminal investigation division of the Internal Revenue Service, and the Social Security Administration.

Students have the opportunity to work as interns during college, and many participate in volunteer work with the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and graduates can pursue a Master of Accountancy degree. Students can also choose from two concentrations: certified public accountant and certified managerial accountant.

Accounting has often been called the language of business because it provides information about business enterprises to managers and other employees, investors, creditors, regulators and the public.
