Lead University (ULEAD,, a small but growing innovative private business and engineering school in San José, Costa Rica seeks to fill the position of Associate Dean (Academic Affairs) to guide and facilitate key academic affairs functions. The successful candidate will provide collaborative leadership to oversee academic quality and engage with ULEAD’s community to ensure continued assessment and successful national and international accreditations. Working side-by-side with faculty, program directors, the dean and staff, the Associate Dean will advance ULEAD’s academic mission and strategic goals. Lead University is looking for a strong partner supporting faculty engagement and development as well as curriculum alignment grounded in student learning outcomes.

We seek an individual with a hands-on mentality who understands the complexities of higher education, develops processes grounded in student learning outcomes and ways to measure academic excellence through quality indicators which allows ULEAD to position itself in national and international university rankings over the next 3 years.

The successful candidate will join Lead University’s leadership team, assume the responsibilities of director of the BA in Business degree, and teach one or two courses per academic year at undergraduate and/or master level.

He or she will:

  • contribute to enhance ULEAD’s reputation of academic excellence by complementing ULEAD’s entrepreneurial experience with academic experience, memberships and connections;
  • oversee the quality of the academic and support programs of the University and all its component entities and international partners.
    Expectations and desirable skills:
  • a doctoral degree from an accredited university with 3 or more years of leadership experience within a university setting (e.g., program director, associate dean, etc.);
  • fields of study may include, but not be limited to Business Administration, Economics, Data Science, Business Engineering, Statistics, or Political Economy;
  • strong teaching record;
  • proven participation in program accreditations and demonstrated knowledge of university ranking methods and processes in order to take on the work-intensive international accreditation path of the institution by building the necessary contacts and memberships and to ensure current decisions align with the goal to become accredited in the near future;
  • ability to successfully provide collaborative and transparent leadership on the University’s leadership team;
  • established experience with strategic planning;
  • understanding of curricular and programmatic oversight and assessment;
  • experience in faculty development, academic policies and procedures;
  • a passion for a high standard of accomplishment and continuous improvement;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English and the ability to collaborate and engage with and inspire others; and
  • strong project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
