Tenure Track Professor in Operations Management
The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management conducts world-class research and provides impactful education on the creation and transformation of technology-based business. We are one of Europe's leading university departments in technology entrepreneurship, focusing primarily on operations and service management, strategic management and venturing, and entrepreneurial leadership. More than 100 persons are working in the department, including 15 professors, 20 senior and postdoc researchers, and many doctoral students. The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management faculty is well known for its publications in leading journals in the core research areas of operations management, strategy, and entrepreneurship. Our department has a strong, internationally recognized profile in investigating relevant, real-life operations management problems with a rigorous, analytical approach. In the recent rankings of empirical operations and supply chain management research (e.g., by the
SCM Journal List), Aalto University is ranked among the best universities in Europe and number 46 in the world. The department conducts empirical research in close collaboration with industries.
The tenure-track professorship in operations management is open to outstanding individuals with strong research and teaching interest. Ideal applicants enjoy intellectual leadership, strive for academic excellence, and inspire people around them. The call is primarily open on the Assistant Professor level. However, exceptional candidates at other ranks will also be considered.
The tenure-track professorship in operations management plays an essential role in the intellectual development of operations management research and education at Aalto University. The professorship covers operations management in business and society, contributing to the department-wide focus on creating and transforming technology-based business.
Relevant topics include but are not limited to operations strategies, production and supply networks, sustainability and productivity in inter-organizational operations, product-service systems, digital operations, and business performance in private and public sector organizations. Interest in healthcare operations management is considered an advantage. The professor will work in close connection with industries to conduct empirical research on real-life problems in operations management.
We offer the candidate the opportunity to conduct research in a vibrant and active international research community. We offer a broad range of opportunities for conducting cross-disciplinary research across Aalto University and in collaboration with the Finnish industry, particularly with firms in technology industries and healthcare, as well as actors in the start-up ecosystem and government and in international research projects. Requirements
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure-track system are expected to carry out and supervise scholarly research, follow the advances of their field of research, provide high-quality academic education, participate in service to the Aalto University community, and contribute to broader societal discussions in their area.
The applicants should hold a doctorate in a discipline relevant to this position or receive the degree before the beginning of the contract. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching, collaboration, and contribution to the scientific community.
