The Blackwood Department of Real Estate within the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a named, endowed chair. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing department that is looking to enhance our successes.

The Blackwood Department of Real Estate draws on an interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty from the College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Academic partners include Building Construction, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Property Management, Smart and Sustainable Cities and other departments within the Pamplin College of Business.
The Real Estate curriculum provides students with broad knowledge from the initial vision of a real estate asset through disposition, and students double major or select strong minors to add depth and specialization to their education. Within Real Estate, students can choose to major in Commercial real estate, Residential real estate, or Real Estate Finance. We are looking for a faculty member with broad interest in teaching and advancing the academic program.
The real estate program started in the fall of 2013 with four first-year students and has grown to nearly 400 majors and over 150 minors. Since its inception, the academic program has been growing in national recognition:

The Blackwood family endowed the program with a $10 million gift in 2021. This academic year we received approval to become the seventh department in the Pamplin College of Business, the Blackwood Department of Real Estate. With this move we are looking for a senior, tenure-track faculty member who will participate in leading a rigorous and outstanding research program.
The successful candidate will conduct high-quality research published in leading real estate journals and other journals consistent with an excellent real estate research program. They will conduct and publish research on timely and creative topics that advance the national and international prominence of the department. Presentation of research at prominent national and international academic conferences is expected and supported.
The faculty member will teach three courses (9 credits) per year consistent with an excellent research program. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in instruction and demonstrate flexibility and innovation in courses taught to support the success of the academic program.
A commitment to university, professional and industry service will complement the teaching and research responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in real estate or related discipline from an accredited institution. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
- An active and nationally/internationally recognized research program with an established record of publications in top-tier real estate journals.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- Experience in program development.
- Experience mentoring junior faculty and student research.
- A desire to seek and participate in grants that enhance research opportunities and reach.
- Record of success in service and involvement in professional real estate societies and organizations.
- Effective participation in academic service at the Department, College, and University levels.
APPOINTMENT
The rank and salary of the position will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience in alignment with Virginia Tech appointment policies. The successful candidate will be considered for tenure at hire based on their record of research and teaching. Salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience and is highly competitive. The position will be located on Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus.
