The Opportunity

A Level D academic is expected to exercise a special responsibility in providing leadership and in fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the academic discipline within the school or other comparable organisational unit, within the university and the community, both scholarly and general.

The academic will establish the Actuarial programme and obtain approvals from the appropriate bodies. Furthermore, the academic will establish and implement strategic goals and directions for the Actuarial programme development, teaching, and administration. The academic will also be accountable for maintaining and developing scholarly research and professional activities linked to the subject.

Reporting Line: The position reports to the Head, School of Business

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the department as the Head of the Department for Actuarial Studies
  2. Lead high-quality academic programs in Actuarial, which meet the university's academic standards and professional accreditation requirements
  3. Lead the development and delivery of innovative and excellent teaching, learning and assessment experiences for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  4. Conduct world-class research, maintaining an active record of high-quality publications, grants, and PhD student supervision
  5. Lead the development and implementation of a research strategy for the Department of Actuarial S,  consistent with Monash University Malaysia's and Monash University's research priorities
  6. Lead the development of strong collaborations with other universities and with government, industry and/or civil society to drive research impact and educational excellence
  7. Play an active leadership role in the management of education, research and/or administration in the School, including coaching, mentorship, leadership and effective performance management
  8. Promote the department and its activities to external stakeholders, including industry partners, alumni, and the wider academic community

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent qualification in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
  2. A solid academic leadership, including experience managing a team of faculty and staff, developing and delivering academic programs, and overseeing research activities
  3. A strong record of successful and innovative curriculum development, especially in actuarial science or analytics
  4. An outstanding teaching and educational leadership record demonstrates a commitment to innovation and excellence
  5. An outstanding research record, demonstrated by world-class publications, grants and PhD supervision
  6. A strong knowledge and understanding of actuarial science, analytics, and related fields, with a track record of research publications and teaching experience
  7. Proven ability to promote the discipline internally within the university as well as externally, both nationally and internationally
  8. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
