The Aalto University School of Business is the leading business school in Finland. The School belongs to the select group of business schools that have been granted the most important international quality accreditations in their field. The School of Business is an innovative and lively community of about 3, 500 students and 400 members of faculty and staff.
What do we offer?
The School of Business offers an English-language four-year doctoral program in Business, Economics and Finance for those seeking academic careers or high-level positions in business. Last year 24 doctors graduated from the School. New doctoral students are selected in an application process once a year.

The supervising professors and teaching faculty of the Aalto University School of Business Doctoral Program have an excellent reputation as internationally acknowledged scholars and leading experts in their respective fields. All faculty members are well-connected to international scholarly networks and collaborate regularly with the leading international universities in the world. Faculty teaching in the doctoral program have taught previously, for example, at Oxford, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, and elsewhere.
Excellent career prospects. The employment situation of our graduates is very good. Recently our students have landed excellent jobs as assistant professors in some of the best universities and business schools in the world, such as Erasmus University Rotterdam, Imperial College London, Lancaster University Management School, and Ohio State University.
Generous funding. During the first and second year of studies, full-time doctoral students who make satisfactory progress in their studies and research are guaranteed an after-tax salary of approximately 25.000€, based on a combination of 50% employment contract and personal grants. From the third year onwards, students are expected to apply for funding from external sources. There are multiple financing sources for PhD students in Finland and historically all students who have performed well in the program have obtained funding for the entire duration of their studies.
What do we expect?
We expect our doctoral students to write their dissertations in English and encourage them to publish the results of their research as peer-reviewed articles in highly regarded international academic journals. Recently, many of our students have succeeded in publishing their work in many top-tier journals, such as Academy of Management Journal, Human Relations, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Financial Economics, and Organization Studies.
