The Department of Information and Service Management is now looking for a:

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN Supply Chain Management (1 year)

Aalto University School of Business is looking to hire a Postdoctoral researcher to work on an Academy of Finland funded research project in the area of buyer-supplier relationships. The position is within the Supply Chain Management discipline in the Department of Information and Service Management at Aalto University School of Business ( The department comprises of three disciplines of Supply Chain Management, Management Science and Information Systems Science with multiple research groups who publish in leading journals in their respective fields. Moreover, the department has a lively, international research community with numerous doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from several countries.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on an Academy of Finland funded research project titled “Alternative Causes to Agency Problems in Inter-Organizational Relationships”, under the supervision of Professor Katri Kauppi. The project started in 2018 and is currently in the stage of empirical inquiry regarding the topic of supplier failure attributions in supply chain relations using behavioral research methods (e.g., scenario-based vignette experiments). The project is conducted in close collaboration with Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in the Netherlands, and the School of Management at University of Bath in the UK. A Short-term visit to either partner university is negotiable.

We are looking for a candidate who can conduct high quality research and aims to publish in the best international journals in the field of operations and supply chain management and neighboring disciplines. An ideal candidate has a background in experimental research methods or at least solid skills in quantitative research methods and interest in behavioral and experimental research. The position is associated with a low teaching load; that is, a maximum 5% of yearly working time is to be allocated to teaching (in Supply Chain Management related topics). This is a full-time postdoc position from January 2022 to the end of December 2022, when the current project funding will end. Depending on the interest of the potential candidate, during that time alternative funding instruments can be explored to continue the research beyond the current project. The position also encourages independent scientific work of the postdoc researcher.

We look for scholars who are completing, or have completed within the past four years, their doctoral studies in a relevant field of study (e.g., supply chain management, organizational studies and/or psychology, purchasing, logistics or operations management, economics or other field of social sciences using experimental methods). The applicants should have demonstrated the ability to conduct research independently and the ability or potential to publish in high-quality scholarly journals. The position requires fluent skills in the English language.

Aalto University follows EU rules and regulations on HR policies. Based on the regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems, full time employment at Aalto University is inconsistent with residence abroad. Employment duties need to be performed in Finland.
