The Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences (ITDS) is comprised of two academic disciplines, Information Systems and Management Science. The ITDS department has 26 research and teaching faculty whose mission is to conduct cutting edge research and prepare the next generation of information systems, management science, and business analytics professionals. Our department offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels. Five of our degrees are STEM-designated – BS and MS in IS and BBA, MBA, and MS in Business Analytics. We also offer PhDs in Information Systems, Management Science, and Information Assurance. ITDS has a solid track record of producing well-prepared, motivated, and, ultimately successful business professionals and academicians.
The Information Technology & Decision Sciences (ITDS) Department in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business seeks an individual for a full-time faculty position in Information Systems (IS), with the ability and experience to teach and develop highly technical undergraduate IS courses and curriculum, independently and with faculty colleagues, advise and mentor students, and render service to the department, college, university, and profession commensurate with their rank.
The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in Information Systems (IS) or a closely related field, experience teaching undergraduate and/or
graduate IS courses, with evidence of excellent performance as a teacher. Degree must be awarded from an AASCB-accredited or similarly accredited institution. A candidate for this position must have an extensive record of 15 or more years of experience in systems engineering and software development in an IBM mainframe environment. Candidate must have expert knowledge of the following areas in order to be able to teach in our mainframe course sequence, in particular BCIS 3620 and BCIS 3690: COBOL programming at the highest level specifically: VSAM file processing, use of COPY libs, CALL subroutines, SORT INPUT PROCEDURE/OUTPUT PROCEDURE, SEARCH/SEARCH ALL with indexed and non-indexed arrays, PACKED DATA handling, BINARY data handling, use of scope terminators, experience working with condition names and INITIALIZE. Experience with TSO and ISPF on the SYSTEM Z, expert knowledge of JCL and system utilities such as IDCAMS, creating, editing and submitting jobs on a SYSTEM Z, transferring results through the use of the XMIT and XDC commands, maintaining PDSs and debugging with the SDSF status procedure. Use of the OMVS shell thru ISPF to create interactive jobs on the System Z’s POSIX-compliant operating system. Data Formats with ASCII to EBCDIC CONVERSION for mainframe JOB processing, extensive work in number systems, especially decimal to hexadecimal to binary data conversion. Extensive knowledge of IBM System Z operating systems, specifically supervisor programs, service requests, automatic interrupts, program status words, privileged instructions and the basis of control. Must be able to teach the reading of internal data stored in mainframe core dumps in order to debug both COBOL and ALC computer programs. Extensive experience using IBM Rational Developer IDE platform required.
Our preference is for a proven instructor with (1) Several years of experience teaching and developing undergraduate IS courses and/or curriculum are desirable as is (2) a proven ability, or at least a willingness, to advise, recruit, and/or mentor students. College degrees in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or related field or a graduate degree and 18 credit hours directly related to the assigned course(s). Experience teaching college-level, continuing education, or executive education adult students.
