Salary range: Starting salary is commensurate with highest degree, teaching experience, and equity within the Department. For Lecturers, salary starts at $66,259 for those with highest degree in engineering, and for non-engineering degree at $62,455. For TSP: $65Hourly Rate. Percent time: 11%-100% - Lecturers
1-40 hours - Teacher Special Program Instructors (TSP's) Anticipated start: 7/1/2022 for AY 2022-2023 Appointments
8/1/2022 for fall 2022 appointments

Summer sessions dates depend on session

The Blum Center for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors and invites applications for a lecturer position to teach courses in the area of Development Engineering. New classes in Dev Eng are planned based upon student interest and candidate expertise. Candidates under consideration will be contacted by the Blum Center. Selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer or Teacher Special Programs (TSP). The previous pool closed February 1, 2022. Those interested in remaining in the pool must reapply.

General Duties: Lecturers are responsible for the course syllabus: curriculum development and delivery, student mentoring, student assessment through relevant projects, problem sets, tests and/or class attendance and participation, and grades. Project-based courses will require working with potential sponsors.
We are also seeking applicants for hourly Teacher Special Programs (TSP), should an opening arise. The TSP instructor's principal responsibilities will include designing and overseeing capstone projects in the Master of Development Engineering (MDevEng) program at the Blum Center.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's or equivalent international degree is required at time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Applicants must hold either a master's degree or equivalent international degree, or at least 7 years of industry or nonprofit organization experience.
Ph.D. or equivalent international degree or graduate professional degree is preferred in a discipline associated with development engineering (e.g ., development technologies, development economics and business models, impact analysis, design for development). Teaching experience in two or more of the topic areas listed below is preferred. Also desirable are a strong track record in developing and implementing new and experimental methods of delivering education and hands-on learning, and experience working with students from a range of disciplines. Industry leadership experience. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.A.
