In terms of teaching competence and methods, the Department of Accounting & Business Law is a world leading department with the deployment of innovative teaching methods such as first implementation of Virtual Reality (VR) in business education. The Department of Accounting & Business Law is currently looking for a

Lecturer in Accounting

This would be an opportunity for you to be surrounded by the talented students of Aalto University who strive towards excellence in their careers. You would become an integral part of the dynamic research and teaching community in our department and of the university as a whole. You would be teaching in our Bachelor’s and Master’s Program as well as life-wide learning, relying on solid competence in accounting’s substance - as well as on a mix of state-of-the-art teaching methods both on campus and on-line, and latest pedagogical skills. You would supervise our students’ thesis work at the Bachelor’s levels with zeal, acting as their trusted tutor. Moreover, we expect you to actively contribute to the development of teaching and supervision, improving how courses are delivered and updating the curricula with contemporary concerns - as with for instance digitalization, in its multiple forms. Although your emphasis is on teaching, we also expect you to contribute to accounting research: You remain sensitive to current streams of academic enquiry, transporting some of these insights to your students. You would also have administrative tasks, acting possibly as the Director of our Bachelor’s Program.

The position is part of the Aalto University lecturer career system and can be filled at the following levels in the lecturer career track: university teacher, university lecturer and senior university lecturer. Please see more information about the lecturer career system here:

We expect the applicant to hold the following qualifications:

Individuals to be nominated to the lecturer career system must have the potential to reach an excellent level in pedagogical competence, and a pedagogical interest appropriate for the university lecturer position, and at least a master's degree in accounting or other relevant field.

A doctoral degree from a relevant field is appreciated at the university teacher level, is expected at the university lecturer level, and is required at the senior university lecturer level. Practical and/or professional experience in the field related to teaching tasks is also appreciated and considered.

We expect you to be fluent in English.

The position is permanent and full-time. Teaching personnel belongs to the total working hours system, and they work for 1612 hours annually. Aalto University provides occupational health care and retirement benefits. The salary will be determined following the salary scales of the General Collective Agreement for Universities.

The starting date for the position is negotiable, but being able to start in August, 2022 at the latest is considered an advantage. The job is located at the Aalto University campus in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland.
