The position if for a post-doctoral scholar to conduct research at the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida (USF) within the Autonomous & Connected Mobility Evaluation Program (ACME). ACME is leading the performance evaluation and assessment of the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) Connected Vehicle Pilot Deployment. With over $24 million in research, the THEA CV Pilot one of the three CV projects selected by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as part of a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITSJPO) funded program. ACME is supporting USDOT in conducting field experiments to understand cooperative-ITS Vehicle to Everything (V2X) radio propagation, interference, and the effects of uncontrolled environmental variables on V2X communications (both Dedicated Short Range Communications or DSRC and Long-Term Evolution Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything or LTE-CV2X).
The candidate is expected to conduct time-sensitive research, providing ample scope for the mentoring, research collaborations, publication and conference travel and other activities to foster professional growth. CUTR is also part of the College of Engineering (COE), which would provide selected candidates cross-collaboration opportunities with the departments within their teaching/academic missions.
Work with a team of postdoctoral scholars to conduct research on connected vehicle (CV) technology using large panel datasets focusing on:
o Mobility impact assessment
o Safety impact assessment
o Environmental impact assessment
* Produce peer-reviewed journal publications and disseminate findings at nationally an internationally recognized conferences.
* Supervise graduate students, regularly meet with Program Director and team.
* Explore new methods, procedures and algorithms to postulate model specifications and estimation of advanced models.
Skills and Experience:
The candidate should have a Ph.D. (or have successfully defended their dissertation prior to the start date) with a background in transportation.
Demonstrated skills and experience in programming, data processing and analysis:
Experience in Python-based machine learning methods highly desired
R or similar statistical/data languages to produce effective result presentations via plots, tables, visualizations (e.g, knowledge of tidyverse, ggplot2, ggmap, rgdal packages).
Experience with versioning platforms such as Github for code maintenance.
Experience in cleaning, parsing, processing, analyzing very large datasets.
Experience in processing and analyzing connected vehicle datasets highly desired.
Ability to learn new frameworks and determine the best toolkit for each requirement and task at hand.
Positive work attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to work independently on innovative scientific problems with a record of excellence in scholarship evidenced by publications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
