The purpose of this position is to manage the Center for Responsible Business (CRB), an independent academic and research program within the Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI) at Berkeley Haas. This position formulates program strategies and goals as well as plans, directs, and controls program budget and other related resources.

Administers CRB activities with primary responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities.

  • Drives development and administration of CRB courses collaborating with Haas Program Offices and supports faculty in course execution.
  • Administers academic research prize(s) that recognize cutting-edge applied research on responsible business topics that elevate the profile of Haas and the CRB.
  • Researches, develops, and writes case studies and teaching notes, partnering with assigned case study writers and faculty authors.
  • Work closely with the Berkeley Haas Case Series to meet case publication guidelines and deadlines.
  • Acts as primary liaison with Haas and UC Berkeley student body interested in responsible business practices including coordination with student clubs and interest groups.
  • Develops and organizes content for academic and industry focused conferences and events.
  • Coordinates with Haas Office of Sustainability to ensure courses and activities meet Michaels Certificate standards.
  • May supervise center staff and student workers.

Works with CRB leadership to identify and pursue funding opportunities and revenue streams.

  • Stewards current and develops pipeline of individual donors in partnership with the Development and Alumni Relations office.
  • Works with Haas Director of Corporate Partnerships to define corporate engagement strategy and to identify donor candidates.
  • Cultivates and stewards relationships with corporate partners.
  • May prepare, write, and manage grant proposals for philanthropic funders, foundations, and/or government granting agencies.
  • May coordinate grant funding efforts.

Assesses CRB's effectiveness, and recommends changes to content, policies and procedures accordingly.

  • Suggests appropriate KPIs: tracks CRB activities, assesses their effectiveness, and recommend changes to the program content, policies, and procedures
  • Develops process and communications to improve collaboration and coordination of CRB activities between CRB team members, student and senior board members, external partners, and other Haas departments, centers, and institutes.
  • May provide backup to other support staff in the unit.

Participates in the CRB budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of the Center.

  • In coordination with CRB executive director, develops annual CRB budget for submission to Haas Finance team.
  • Manages monthly budget reconciliations and updates to Haas Finance teams.

Serves on committees representing the CRB, participating in short term and long term planning of research and program activities.

  • Lead strategy, cultivation and engagement of CRB Senior Advisory Board.
  • Lead the CRB Student Advisory Board recruitment and engagement supporting strategic activities and alumni engagement.
  • Represent the CRB in internal committee and departmental meetings as part of the Institute for Business & Social Impact at Haas and the Sustainability Program.
  • Serve on departmental and campus-wide committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Academic background and/or subject matter expertise related to corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
  • Experience developing and leading one or more of the following: student-facing programs including leadership activities, communications and publicity, industry engagement and partnerships, and large events.
  • Experience developing and writing case studies and other forms of thought-leadership production.
  • Experience partnering successfully with academic faculty, lecturers, staff, and wider communities to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and strategic results
  • Experience recruiting and managing graduate student workers.
  • Experience developing and managing non-profit budgets.
  • Advanced knowledge of administrative budgetary, and financial principles and practices.
  • Skilled fundraising experience with proven results securing support for academic and experiential student sustainability programs and working in partnership with or on development teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders (faculty, staff, corporate leaders).
  • Experience identifying, securing, and stewarding funding sources.
  • Experience working with and/or advising companies on topics of responsible business practices.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills including web content creation, strategic communications, and public speaking.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members.

  • Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $77,600.00 - $115,000.00.
