With its headquarters for operations and global research now located in Richmond, Virginia, CoStar Group has established the CoStar Group Endowed Chair in Real Estate Analytics in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The aim of this Chair is to provide the resources necessary to address the intersection of big data and real estate, plus lead efforts around next generation thinking and development of real estate professionals.
This position will be a tenure-track position in the Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate in the School of Business, which houses the Kornblau Real Estate Program. The preferred candidate is expected to be hired at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with a start date as soon as January 2019. The compensation package will be commensurate with background, qualifications and experience and include the title of "CoStar Group Endowed Chair in Real Estate Analytics" plus an annual budget for research, professional, and related expenses.
The CoStar Group Endowed Chair in Real Estate Analytics is expected to be a leading scholar whose research contributions and interests reflect significant intersections between real estate and analytics. Such intersections may include economic analyses, geographic information systems, real estate valuation, etc. The CoStar Group Endowed Chair in Real Estate Analytics also will be expected to have a desire and ability to engage real estate and other business professionals and local stakeholders to forge strategic partnerships. In addition, the CoStar Group Endowed Chair in Real Estate Analytics will play a key role in the School’s business analytics agenda.
The faculty member must possess a Ph.D. in analytics, economics, finance, real estate, or a related discipline and is required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio, a proven track record of publications in premier journals, a national/international reputation, and evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise. Teaching excellence in courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Experience and an interest in developing and teaching courses in emerging areas of importance such as real estate analytics are desired. The hired candidate will participate in service initiatives at the department, college, and university levels, and should show capability to lead outreach activities to develop relationships between VCU and industry leaders. The candidate will have particular opportunities to engage with CoStar Group and access CoStar Group proprietary data. The candidate must have experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and be committed to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
