- Facilitates/manages academic student employee (GSR and ASE) hiring and merit processes, identifying issues relating to policy and compensation.
- Partners with hiring supervisors at Berkeley Law (e.g. Professors or Center Executive Directors) on hiring and compensation.
- Reviews academic eligibility for GSR and ASE hires.
- Reviews compensation for GSR and ASE hires.
- Conducts position number management in UCPath for GSR and ASE hires.
- Drafts, reviews, and issues appointment letters for GSR and ASE hires.
- Coordinates with Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) and Summer Sessions on GSR and ASE hiring, and distributes appointment letters, policy information, and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) as appropriate.
- Coordinates with Law Schools’ Registrar to ensure all academic appointments are active in related systems.
- Partners with BRS or UC Berkeley Graduate Division as needed on GSR and ASE childcare reimbursements.
- Under general supervision, facilitates/manages the academic review process for non-instructional, non-senate academic appointees, identifying issues relating to policy and compensation.
- Partners with leadership at Berkeley Law (e.g. the Dean or Faculty Directors) on research-related hiring needs.
- Collects, reviews, analyzes, and generates information regarding administrative, service, and research efforts for non-senate academic appointments.
- Collects, drafts, and/or edits, and analyzes merit and/or promotion cases for non-senate academic appointments.
- Ensures timely submission of cases and guides the review process to completion.
- Prepares the appointment memo for non-senate, non-instructional academic positions.
- Coordinates with Berkeley Regional Services and/or the campus Academic Personnel Office (APO) on the hiring and review of non-senate academic appointees, and ensures the development and distribution of appointment letters and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) as appropriate.
- Serves as the liaison for Berkeley Regional Services for Student Assistant hiring and position management in UCPath for Student Assistants.
- Under general supervision provides advice and guidance on academic compensation programs, academic personnel policies and procedures.
- Supports academic search committees.
- Coordinates the academic search process, including placement of ads, drafting of search plans, and conducting the initial screening of materials submitted.
- Under guidance from manager, counsels GSR and ASEs and other academic staff concerning work-related problems, work-eligibility (visa) matters such as J-1 processing, and benefits considerations.
- Other duties as assigned
- Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations to the HR Director and/or hiring managers at the School of Law.
- Demonstrated organization, problem solving and communication skills.
- Knowledge of campus, college and departmental formal and informal policies and procedures and understanding of variances to stated policies.
- Knowledge of Human Resources Management System and other related business software programs and systems.
- Knowledge of unit academic culture and educational goals of discipline(s) served.
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Prior experience in Human Resources, Academic Personnel, or in higher education administration preferred.
Salary & Benefits
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $31.13 – $33.76.
