Within UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY, the Woodbury School of Business is seeking a Lecturer position in Written Business Communication. Under the direction of the Chair of the Marketing Department in the Woodbury School of Business, the hire will provide service to the university and community and uphold professional and ethical standards. The individual in the position will teach undergraduate courses in Written Business Communication. The position will primarily be one of teaching five classes of MKTG 2200, Written Business Communication each semester.

The Woodbury School of Business is AACSB accredited and offers undergraduate degrees to 5,000 business majors and also offers an MBA program. UVU is one of the nation's fastest-growing comprehensive four-year institutions with 37,000 students. The campus is located in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains, 45 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City with access to high-quality cultural events and outstanding outdoor activities. Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a masters degree in Business, Business Communication or writing-related field (e.g., English) is required. Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.

  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies, and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Extensive knowledge of evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation.
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate field of study,
  • Skill in public speaking and report writing.
  • Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepare instructional materials (i.e., exams, visual aids, course outlines, syllabi, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
  • Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, lectures, field trips, individualized instruction, on-line instruction, and other appropriate instructional methods.
  • Evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
  • Recommend students for advancement and graduation.
  • Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability and performance.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain office hours and assists department chair, faculty, department staff, and advisers in maintaining an effective program.
  • Serve on committees and attend faculty and other meetings as assigned.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

M.B.A. degree preferred.
Five years of industry and professional experience outside of the classroom is highly respected and preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with a teaching interest in the area with knowledge of business topics and computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

Talking continuously, sitting and standing regularly. Fine hand manipulation for use in computer systems.
