James Madison University (JMU) seeks nominations of and applications from innovative, forward-thinking and visionary leaders to serve as its next Academic Unit Head (AUH) of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics (CIS-BSAN), a unit of its dynamic College of Business.
The AACSB-accredited College of Business offers bachelors and master’s degrees, and the College graduates approximately 700 undergraduate and 100 graduate students each year. It is led by 130 full-time faculty. The College was recently rated by Business Week magazine as offering one of the top 5% undergraduate business programs in the country and also boasts a new 210,000-square-foot College of Business Learning Complex, a $100 million building completed in 2021.
The CIS-BSAN Academic Unit Head provides leadership and vision for the unit with a focus on delivering an extraordinary education to its major and minor students while supporting the M.B.A. programs and maintaining a strong research environment. CIS-BSAN has 26 full-time faculty members, over 650 CIS majors (in two concentrations: information systems and business analytics), 100 CIS minors and more than 50 BSAN minors. In addition, the unit supports the College by providing core business classes in information systems, business analytics and operations management.
The next CIS-BSAN AUH must possess a Ph.D. or terminal degree in information systems, operations management, management science, business analytics or a closely-related field, ideally from an AACSB-accredited institution. Previous experience as a department chair or some other significant academic leadership experience is beneficial. The position requires strong communication skills, the capacity to manage multiple competing priorities and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. The selected candidate will be expected to promote diversity, access and inclusion among students, faculty and staff. In addition, applicants must have sufficient teaching, research and service credentials to qualify for tenure in the Department of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics at JMU.
