The Department of Maritime Business Administration at Texas A&M University at Galveston invites applications for a full time tenure-track position with a 9 month academic appointment beginning September 1, 2020. Applicants will be considered for an Assistant Professor title to conduct high impact research and teaching (undergraduate and graduate courses, both face-to-face and online) in Business Analytics with emphasis in Maritime and Logistics fields. This person will also be expected to engage in internal (departmental and university) and external (professional) service. Salary and research budget are competitive.
Texas A&M University at Galveston is an ocean-oriented branch campus of Texas A&M University which educates nearly 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students in a unique blend of marine and maritime programs, including majors in science, business, engineering, liberal arts, and transportation. It is the primary component that fulfills the sea-grant portion of Texas A&M’s land-, sea-, space-grant mission and has nearly $10 million annually in research expenditures. Texas A&M-Galveston is also home to the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, one of seven in the U.S. and the only academy integrated into a Tier 1 academic institution, which trains over 300 cadets annually for maritime service and employment around the world. Texas A&M-Galveston is ideally located in Galveston, Texas on the Gulf Coast where is it surrounded by the industry, environment and programs essential to fulfilling its special-purpose mission.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Management Science, Econometrics or closely related fields. Further, research will be expected to have global recognition. We anticipate that this addition of a tenure-track faculty will improve graduate research and research funding. We will also be able to advance toward a PhD program in the Americas on maritime business.
Preferred Qualifications: The candidate expertise in the context of the analytics may be maritime or transportation related. Preference will be given to individuals whose research complements the interests of our existing faculty. The successful candidate will show strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data mining, machine learning and/or artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the teaching and research of Business Data Analytics framework is expected to be geared towards transforming big data sets into business assets by creating meaningful facts, actionable insights, valuable outcomes, and sustainable impacts. The teaching and research should emphasize the different kinds of maritime related projects that can be carried out on corporate data, linking people and performance applied in Logistics field. The courses and research projects conducted should also support professionals who would like to understand the power of analytics and get knowledge about how to use data for evidence-based management decisions.
