    The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.


     


    CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.


     


    As part of this programme, the climate finance Cluster will collect data that measures and price climate risk exposures in financial markets, conduct preliminary data analysis and skillfully manage the projects for documentation purposes; all content is summarised here.


     


    The Project Officer will be based in the Centre for Sustainable Finance Innovation (CSFI) of Nanyang Business School and will be responsible for developing preliminary data analysis to measure and price risks arising from climate change suitable for each company so that climate risk can be managed by companies and hedged by investors.


     


    The Project Officer's activities are designed to provide a nuanced understanding of how climate change is discussed and documented within the corporate world. By bridging technology and environmental science, the role aims to enhance the strategic responses to climate risks, tailor interventions, and ultimately contribute to the sustainability goals of the region. This position not only demands technical expertise in data science and computational linguistics but also a keen understanding of climate science and strong collaborative abilities to work effectively in a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.


     


    Key Responsibilities:




    • Use computational linguistic tools and machine learning techniques to analyze discussions on climate change in corporate social responsibility reports, conference call transcripts, and the Management Discussion and Analysis section of companies’ annual reports.




    • Construct a dataset that can produce a climate risk fact sheet containing essential information about various climate risk exposure (e.g., drought, flooding) of a region or a city.




    • Handle data management and statistical analyses.




    • Work effectively with colleagues from across the CTP, and with local collaborators in ASEAN countries.




     


    Job Requirements:




    • Bachelor’s Degree in data analytics or a closely related field.




    • Ability to work independently to develop research in challenging environments.




    • Collaborative, with an interest in working with other researchers and scientists (this is a large team project) to produce high-quality and impactful research.




    • Interest in climate, green, or sustainable finance.




    • Excellent knowledge of computational linguistic tools and machine-learning techniques.




    • Experience with data analysis with Python and STATA.




    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English which is essential to conduct research.
