    Position Summary


    The University at Buffalo School of Management (SOM) is an official awardee of the New York Semiconductor Manufacturing and Research Technology Innovation Corridor Tech Hub initiative. The NY SMART I-Corridor Tech Hub seeks to shift the trajectory of Upstate New York via the formation of a globally leading semiconductor cluster which designs and delivers semiconductor solutions for the region, the nation, and the world. The Supply Chain Activation Network (SCAN) subcomponent works to expand the participation of new and existing businesses in the region as suppliers to the semiconductor industry. The goal is to promote inclusive economic growth in the region and the development of a diverse and resilient supply chain for the semiconductor industry.


    We are looking for a Postdoctoral Associate to join our team to conduct research on the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region with the potential to participate in the semiconductor supply chain. The research project will focus on strategic decision-making, entrepreneurial pivots, and the role of inter-firm networks and founder \ CEO characteristics.


    The Postdoctoral Associates primary responsibilities will be:


    • Manage and execute the major components of the research project, including working with the team on


        • study conceptualization

        • research design

        • participant interviewing

        • archival data retrieval

        • survey design and collection



       



    • Data analysis and preparation of research articles and academic presentation.

    • Travel within upstate New York (the I-90 corridor) and opportunities for subsequent grant writing.


     

    Dr. Scott Seibert, Academic Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Professor in the department of Organization and Human Resources, will serve as the primary supervisor. Jennifer Flagg, Director of the Center for Supply Chain Analytics, will provide additional supervision and direction.

    Minimum Qualifications




      • Doctoral degree in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior, or related field.



     


     



    Preferred Qualifications



    • Academic specialization or demonstrated interest in entrepreneurship, small business management, strategic decision-making, supply chain management, and\or network analysis.

    • Ability to acquire and work with existing data sources to identify patterns and produce insights, including archival and government economic data, web searching and web scraping.

    • Ability to acquire social science data including respondent interviewing and qualitative data analysis, case study development, survey design, administration, cleaning, and statistical analysis. Ability to use statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS, MPlus, or R) for data analysis and interpretation.

    • Ability to work with or learn Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (e.g., Slate, Salesforce).

    • Experience working with SMEs, especially in the manufacturing sector.
