Job Description

The Triple Crown accredited University of Auckland Business School (UABS) seeks to appoint an outstanding scholar as Professor of Marketing preferably demonstrated excellence and leadership in research and a commitment to high-quality research-informed teaching.

The appointee will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research students, and provide academic leadership to the research and teaching programmes. This commitment will be extended to supporting and mentoring highly motivated academic staff who demonstrate excellence in research and teaching.

In addition, you will bring a track record of successfully competing for external research income; and contribute to increasing the impact and relevance of the Department of Marketing for managers, policy-makers and marketing practitioners in New Zealand and internationally.

There will be an opportunity for those interested in departmental leadership to become Deputy Head of Department or disciplinary area lead. If desired, further leadership opportunities within the Department, Business School and the wider University can also be explored.

The preferred candidate will demonstrate:

  • Enthusiasm and energy for building opportunities and capturing synergies from disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and teaching programmes;
  • A strong record of scholarship, research contribution, publication and collaboration and a continuing programme of individual and team-based research;
  • Expertise preferably in strategic, service or sustainability marketing;
  • A strong commitment to high-quality teaching and graduate supervision.

The Department of Marketing, one of seven departments within UABS, is ranked highly amongst other marketing departments in New Zealand. It has a well-developed research culture, with researchers publishing in the best journals in their field. The teaching program is strong and innovative and the quality of teaching, as judged by student evaluations and by peer review, is very high. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Marketing within New Zealand's leading research-led Business School.

The Department offers a full suite of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, including a particularly vibrant PhD programme. It has more than 500 full-time equivalent students enrolled and 21 full-time equivalent academic staff, including two professor and four associate professors. Current research spans the disciplines of Marketing Science and Consumer Research, and Strategic Marketing and Marketing innovation. Opportunities for collaboration across the Faculty provide even greater prospects for research diversity, and the Department runs a lively monthly seminar series to further enhance this.
