The Department of Accounting at the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Melbourne invites applications for multiple positions across all ranks, i.e., Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor equivalent), Associate Professor, and Full Professor. Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor positions are tenure-track, while Full Professor positions are tenured.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Accounting or equivalent (applicants for Senior Lecturer can complete their degree shortly after commencement). The University of Melbourne is a leading research university with a strong commitment to high-quality education. Successful candidates will therefore demonstrate strong potential to both conduct high quality scholarly research and pursue teaching excellence, with a track record commensurate with the position applied for. We welcome candidates who pursue research in any area of accounting, applying any methodology. Candidates may have teaching experience in any area of accounting, but should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality, innovative teaching. We also seek candidates who are interested in providing effective engagement with colleagues, students, and the external Accounting profession, and an interest in taking on various leadership and service functions at the department, faculty, and university levels commensurate with their position.

Salaries are internationally competitive and adjusted according to a candidate’s prior experience and track record. Teaching loads are comparable to the loads at top international research universities. Every research-active position is annually endowed with research funding to cover research assistance, conference participation, and other expenses. Other benefits include relocation assistance, support in the application for permanent residence in Australia, as well as generous superannuation (retirement) contributions.

The University of Melbourne is an internationally leading university with a tradition of excellence in teaching and research. Melbourne’s outstanding reputation puts it at the forefront of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region and the world. The University of Melbourne is consistently ranked within the world’s top 40 universities by all major university rankings, and it frequently ranks #1 in Australia.

Established in 1853, shortly after the founding of Melbourne, the University is the second oldest university in Australia. Its main campus in Parkville is only minutes away from the city’s centre and is part of Australia’s premier knowledge precinct, comprising eight hospitals, many leading research institutes and a wide range of knowledge-based industries. The University employs people of outstanding scholarship and offers a unique environment where staff are valued and rewarded.

Melbourne is frequently recognized as one of the most liveable cities in the world. The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2019 Global Liveability Index ranks Melbourne as the second most liveable city, especially acknowledging its quality of education, healthcare, and infrastructure. It annually hosts world-class cultural, arts, and sports events, including the Melbourne Fringe Festival, the Australian Open, and the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. When asked, faculty note the friendliness and openness of the local population, the diversity and authenticity of represented cuisines, the mild climate which is comparable to California’s Bay Area, and the many opportunities to explore the region with close proximity to numerous beaches, smaller towns, nature reserves, and wine regions.

Applications should be submitted online only, via the University’s careers page.

Applications must include the following documents:
- Cover letter (specifying position you are applying for)
- Curriculum vitae

Applications can be submitted and will be reviewed year-round, and short-listing decisions are made on an on-going basis until the positions are filled.
