My academic background has involved studying the human dimensions of natural resource based tourism and recreation. My research is grounded in theory but also applied to practical situations. I have examined recreation and tourism from the aspect of social-psychological behaviour, developed nationally adopted (in the U.S.) management frameworks, and put these frameworks into practice by the development of recreation and tourism plans that have received millions of dollars of funding for local communities. My research is directed toward four areas of concentration, regional tourism planning, and development, development of resource planning models, economic impact estimation, and survey methodology development.
