Dr. Das’ research interests are primarily in the fields of Development Economics, Applied Microeconomics and Public Economics. Her current focus is in the area of gender equality and improvement of property rights in India. She has been involved in projects that look at the inheritance rights of women and how it affects not only their welfare, but also the welfare of her children. Further, Dr. Das is particularly interested in measuring gender bias with respect to the educational outcomes of children. Other research has looked into the effectiveness of having female leaders in political offices and its effect on delivering public works program. Dr. Das is also interested in analyzing various policies that are targeted towards improving gender equality especially in the realms of primary and secondary education.
